I answer your question - that is "How do I know who called me?" - explaining how to use some online solutions useful for this purpose, all free and easy to use.
Who's calling?
The first solution I invite you to try is Who's calling?, the website that is used by the app Should I Answer (available on Android, even for devices without Google services, and iOS), which allows you to identify and block the numbers of "known annoyances" thanks to a database enriched by the reports of the users themselves. If you want to find the numbers of call centers, telemarketers and the like, this is undoubtedly a solution to consider.
How does it work? It's very simple: first, go to the home page of the service, write the number you are interested in identifying in the search bar located at the top and click on the button CIRCLES. If there are indications for the number you are looking for, you will be able to view them and use them to understand who is behind the number; otherwise you will not be provided with any useful information.
Truecaller
Another great service to find out who a given phone number, both mobile and landline, is referring to is Truecaller. We are in the presence of one of the most famous portals in the category. It provides all the relevant information by drawing on a proprietary database built from the numbers added by users who have consented to the use of the service.
The difference with respect to the service I have already told you about in the previous chapter is that to use Truecaller you must log in with your Google or Microsoft account and, moreover, you must be willing to share your number in the service database (it is from this "exchange" come the numbers in the public list): it is not the best for privacy, so consider whether to use it or not.
If you decide to use it, connect to its main page and fill in the search field Search a phone number by entering the number you would like to know more about, then click on the button with the magnifying glass, on the right, to start the search. By default, the prefix set is the cittàn one, but if you want you can change it by clicking on it and selecting the one you prefer from the drop-down menu on the left.
Now, log into Truecaller using your account Google or that Microsoft, enter the requested data and wait for the page with the search results to be visible (and you are asked to access the address book, decline). If the number entered is present in the Truecaller list, you will be shown a new Web page with the card relating to the number entered, indicating the users who have reported the aforementioned numbering, the membership user and the reference address. Otherwise, you will be promptly notified on the screen.
Keep in mind that Truecaller can also be used from smartphones by downloading the appropriate free application, available for both Android devices (also on alternative stores, for devices without Google services) and iOS. One clever way to try and find a phone number, and especially a mobile number, is to save it to WhatsApp. If the number is associated with a WhatsApp account, in fact, some information about the person to whom the number belongs, such as the profile photo, may be visible, which is valuable to understand who it is (provided that such information has not been hidden by the user himself).
Are you wondering how you can save the number that called you on WhatsApp, so that you can make all the necessary changes? I'll explain it to you immediately.
- Your Android - open the official application of WhatsApp, tap on the tab Chat, presses the icon of white speech bubble on green background, tap on the symbol (⋮) and presses the icon oflittle man with the symbol (+) beside him. Now, fill out the contact form providing the telephone number of your interest and press on the wording Save. After saving the number, press the button (⋮) (at the top right of the screen containing the complete list of WhatsApp contacts) and presses on the item Update.
- Your iPhone - launch the WhatsApp on your "iPhone by", presses on the wording Chat, tap on the symbol of pencil with paper (top right), tap on the item New contact, indicates the telephone number of your interest in the appropriate text field and tap on the wording end per due turn consecutive.
After saving the number of your interest, press the tab Chat, tap on the symbol of white speech bubble on green background (if you are working from an Android device) or on the symbol of pencil with paper (if you are working on an iPhone), look for the contact you saved just now, tap on his profilo's photo and, if this is visible, see if there is any useful detail to understand who it is.
White pages
In a tutorial like this I couldn't fail to mention White pages. This very famous service, in fact, allows you to find out who a given landline number belongs to by revealing the name of the owner of the same, but also the address of origin and various other information, as long as these details are public.
To use PagineBanche, connect to its home page and type the phone number on which you would like to know more in the field Telephone number, dopodiché clicca sul pulsating search placed on the right.
You will then be shown a page with the results of the search performed and, if the telephone number entered previously is actually present in the telephone directories, you will see the reference address appear as well as the address (if available) directly on the map, after clicking on the link map.

Yellow Pages
Do you suspect that the number from which you received the call belongs to a professional or a business? Then go to the website of the Yellow Pages which, as easily understood, is the digital transposition of the historical paper list.
You ask me how to use it? I'll explain it to you right away! First, connect to the home page of the service and click on the tab telephone number. Then type in the phone number you wish to know more about in the field located in the center of the screen and click on the button search, to start the search.
At this point, if the number for which you have searched is present in the telephone directories, you will be shown the reference address (as well as a map to quickly identify the geographical position of the business or professional in question). If, on the other hand, the number entered is not present in the PagineGialle lists, the search will not return any results.
Please note that, if you want, you can also carry out your searches from your smartphone or tablet by using the official app of the service available for Android devices (also on alternative stores, for devices without Google services) and iOS / iPadOS.
InfoBel
Another service that I recommend to get more information about the origin of the phone number is InfoBel. It is a sort of gigantic interactive telephone directory that can be consulted to quickly find telephone numbers belonging to companies and individuals.
To use it, you must first connect to its home page and specify, using the appropriate drop-down menu, whether to search for a numbering of acompany or of an private. Once this is done, enter the number of your interest in the appropriate field and click on the yellow button Research.
Now, see the results that have been obtained. If information relating to the number you searched for is not available, it is likely that this is not public and therefore cannot be identified by the service.
How do I know who called me on the landline
If you've come to this guide wondering "How do I know who called me on the landline?", evidently you have received phone calls on your landline number and, not having had time to answer, you would like to see who it is.
Well, in this case you have various options to consider. Some operators (such as TIM and Vodafone) offer dedicated services that allow you to see the calls received through numbers to dial or through the app with which to manage your line from smartphones and tablets. Furthermore, depending on the model of landline telephone in one's possession, it is possible to access a real one call log, containing incoming, outgoing and missed calls.

How do I know who called me with the private
If you want know who called with the private, I recommend using Whooming. This is a service that, using the call forwarding technique, allows you to find out who is behind the words "Anonymous", "Unknown" or "Private number" that appears on the phone display. It is free in its basic version, which however does not allow you to see the final part of the numbers found.
