How to open FLV files on Windows
If you use a PC Windows, can open FLV files using one of the programs listed below. They are all effective and simple to use in the same way, choose the one that suits you the most!
VLC
The best player that can play FLV files on Windows is VLC. MPC-HC is another free and open source media player that allows you to play all major audio and video file formats. Its interface is based on that of the first versions of Windows Media Player (those included in Windows 98 and earlier), but this should not be misleading: in reality it is a state-of-the-art software perfectly suited to playing videos that are can be found online nowadays.
To download MPC-HC on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the button MPC-HC – Download Now. When the download is complete, open the MPC-HC installation package (eg. MPC-HC.xx.x86.exe) and first on Yes and then OK, NEXT 6 consecutive times and finally Install e end to conclude the setup.
At this point, you just have to start MPC-HC, go to the menu File> Open File and select the FLV format file to play. Playback of the video will start instantly.
If you want to set MPC-HC as the default player for playing FLV files, go to the menu View> Options program, select the item Formats from the left sidebar and click on the button Run as administrator. I use a Mac? No problem, even macOS can count on several free media players that allow you to open FLV files without problems. Here are some of the most interesting.
VLC
VLC is multi-platform software, this means you can use it for open FLV also on Mac. Then connect to its official website and click on the button Download VLC to download it to your computer. When the download is complete, open the dmg package containing the program (vlc–xx.dmg) and drag the icon VLC in the folder Applications which is at his side.
Mission accomplished! Now you just have to start VLC by selecting its icon in the macOS Launchpad and open your FLV videos by dragging them into the program window or selecting the item Open file from the menu Fillet.

IINA
IINA is a free and open source media player available exclusively for macOS. It supports all major multimedia file formats and ensures excellent performance even on older computers. It's still in an early development stage, it's not as stable as VLC, but it proved to be reliable enough in my tests.
To download IINA on your computer, connect to its official website and click on the button Download. When the download is complete, open the ZIP archive that contains IINA and copy the application icon into the folder Applications of macOS. When the operation is completed, right-click on the IINA icon and select the item apri from the menu that appears to start IINA.
At this point, go to the menu File> Open located at the top left and select the FLV file to play. Alternatively, grab the video in FLV format you want to play in IINA and drag it to the application icon in the Dock bar.
If you want to associate FLV files to IINA, so that they are automatically opened by the application, follow the procedure I showed you previously for VLC.
How to open FLV files on smartphones and tablets
Finally, here are some applications to view FLV files on smartphones and tablets. Whether you have an Android device, an iPhone or an iPad, you will surely find what you need.
VLC (Android / iOS)
Well yes! VLC it is also available on smartphones and tablets and is compatible with both Android and iOS. The application is 100% free and allows you to easily play all major media file formats (except those with AC3 audio on iOS).
The mobile version of VLC allows you to play videos directly from the smartphone memory, from microSD (on Android) and from network drives.
