Avidemux (Windows / Mac / Linux)
The first of the useful resources I want to tell you about is Avidemux. Calling it a program for joining videos is an understatement. It is in fact a very valid video editing software that allows you to edit, cut, combine and apply special effects to videos in all major formats through a fairly spartan but very intuitive interface.
It allows you to work both in direct mode and in full-processing mode. This means that when it is used to cut or merge two videos of the same format (they must also have the same technical characteristics to be able to be merged), to save the final result there is no need to perform a new compression. It's free and works on Windows, Mac and Linux.
To use it for your purpose, first download the program on your computer by connecting to its website and then clicking on the link FossHub that you find under the nome of the operating system che stai using.
When the download is complete, if you are using Windows open the .exe file obtained and click on Si. Prize for your Next, its I Agree, its Next three more times, come on install and Finish.
If, on the other hand, what you are using is a Mac, open the downloaded .dmg package and drag the program icon to the folder Applications the finestra of the Finder that opened on the desktop. Then right click on it and choose apri twice in a row, so as to start the program bypassing Apple's limitations to non-blessed developers.
Now that you see the program window on the screen, cycle on the icon of the folder which is at the top left and selects the first video. Once the import is complete, click on the menu Fillet at the top left, press on Add and select the other movie.
If necessary, you can possibly change the resolution of the movies using the editing functions attached to the program, which you can access by first clicking on the menu Video and then on the voice filters.
Finally, indicate the format in which to save the final file by selecting the video codec you prefer from the drop-down menu Video output which is on the left, otherwise leave the item selected Copy so as not to change the original one.
Then indicate the audio codec via the menu Audio output always placed on the left, otherwise, even in this case, you can leave the original one set by leaving the item selected Copy. Using the drop-down menu instead Container output you can define the type of container to use.
To save the final file, go to the menu Filletclick sulla voce Save, indicate the destination location and wait for the files to be processed. Done!
Free Video Joiner (Windows)
Free Video Joiner is another one of the video merging programs that you should consider. It is free, for Windows and is particularly suitable for less experienced users, or at least for those who want to unify their movies without too many thoughts.
Unlike other similar software, it allows you to combine videos in different formats (AVI, WMV, MOV, MPEG, MPG) and obtain files in AVI, WMV, MOV, DVD, VCD or movies for mobile devices. Of course, it always requires recompression of the files.
To use it, first download it to your computer by connecting to the program website and clicking on the button Download.
When the download is complete, open the .exe file obtained and press on Run and Si. Cheap poi su Next, select the voice I accept the agreement and press again Next four times, come on install and Finish.
Now that you see the Free Video Joiner window on your desktop, click on the button Add and select the movies you want to act on in the exact order you want to merge them. Finally, select the folder in which to save the unified video by clicking on the button Select and start the procedure by clicking on the button Join bottom right. And here it is!
Machete Lite (Windows)
Another program to join videos that I recommend is Machete Lite. It is a small software designed primarily to cut video files into multiple segments but which can also be used without any problem to combine them, as long as they have the same technical characteristics.
It supports AVI / WMV format files and direct saving of movies without recompressions. It's free (but possibly also available in a paid variant with extra features) and it's only for Windows.
To use it for your purpose, connect to its website and click on the button Download that you find on the right, under the heading FREE Machete Lite:, in order to download the program to your computer.
When the download is complete, open the .msi file obtained and press on Run. So press on Next, select the voice I Agree and click to anchor your Next three times, then on Si and Close.
Now start the program by double clicking on the relative shortcut that has been added to the desktop and then click on the icon gialla poster which is on the toolbar attached to the Machete Lite window and select the first video you want to act on.
Therefore, position the cursor of the time bar at the bottom at the exact point where you want to join the second movie, click on the button with the film that you always find on the toolbar and select the second movie.
Finally, click on the menu Fillet, select the voice Save As, indicate the location on your computer where you want to save the output file and press the button Save. Then wait for the unification procedure of the two videos to be started and completed.
VirtualDub (Windows)
Very popular among free video editing programs on Windows, VirtualDub offers a quick and easy way to cut, split and merge videos. It also includes a wide range of special filters that allow you to correct and transform the appearance of your movies in various forms.
It allows you to work both in direct mode (direct stream copy) and in full processing mode, with video and audio recompression. To use it, the videos to be merged must have the same technical characteristics.
To use it, connect to the program's website and click on the link Download Vx.xx.x (x86 / 32-bit) release build (VirtualDub-x.xx.x.zip), in order to download the program to your computer.

Now that you see the main program window on your desktop, click on the entry Fillet which is located on the menu bar, presses on Open video file ... and select the first movie on which you are interested in going to act.
Once this is done, click on the menu again Fillet e pigia his Append [file format] segment (instead of [file format] you will find the current file format indicated) then select the other movie. Repeat this with all the video files you want to merge.
If you want the program not to encode the videos again, also click on the item Video attached to the menu bar and select the option Direct stream copy. Otherwise, leave the option selected Full processing.
Finally, expand the menu again Fillet, select the voice Save As [file format] (instead of [file format] you will find the current file format indicated), assign a name to the output video, indicate the location on your computer where you want to save it and click on the button Save.
VobMerge (Windows)
In an article focusing on what are the best programs for joining videos, it is also necessary to mention the name of VobMerge. As its name suggests, it is a tool that allows you to join videos in VOB format, or videos extracted directly from DVD video.
It's super small, free, no-install, and only for Windows operating systems. Furthermore, the process of merging the files is very fast as it does not involve a complete re-processing of the movies.
To use it, connect to the program's website and click on the link Download: VOBMerge x.xx Remixed that you find under the name of the software, in order to immediately start downloading it on your computer.
When the download is complete, extract the ZIP archive obtained in any Windows location, open the .exe file contained within it and press on Run.
Now that you see the program window on your desktop, click on the button Add file (s) ... which is on the right and select the VOB files you want to merge.
Then press the button Go, indicate the location where you intend to save the output file and wait for the procedure to be started and then completed. Here it is!
iFFmpeg (Mac)
Do you have a Mac and the program that I proposed at the beginning of the guide to merge your videos did not matter to you in a particular way? Then try iFFmpeg. This is an excellent graphical interface for FFmpeg, a popular command line software for editing movies, free and open source.
It is quite simple to use and offers numerous options. Unfortunately it is not free but you can download the free trial version (as I did to write this step) which works without limitations for a maximum period of 10 days.
To download it, connect to the program's website and click on the button Try Now. When the download is complete, open the package in .dmg format you just obtained, click on the button Agree in the window that opens, then drag its icon to the folder Applications. Then go to the folder Applications say macOS, fai clic destro sull'icona del programma e scegli apri twice.
Once this is done, you will be prompted to download FFmpeg and copy it to the iFFmpeg main window. To do this, connected to the FFmpeg website, presses the first link on the left sidebar and wait for the download to be started and completed.
Then reply with Got it to the FFmpeg download request and indicate your willingness to use the demo version of the software. Then open the previously downloaded FFmpeg .dmg package, drag its icon to the iFFmpeg main window and confirm the installation procedure by clicking first on Use and copy to Application Support / iFFmpeg folder and OK.
Now, drag and drop the videos you want to merge into the iFFmpeg main window, click the button with the clip placed at the top in the center and presses on Home.
If the videos you have selected are of the same format, no re-encoding will be performed. If not, you can indicate in which format to save the final file from the menu Merge modeby selecting the option Re-encode and deselecting the option Same form as source.
