How to download Uber on Android
Before starting to go into details on how Uber works, you must have downloaded the Uber application on your Android device. If the app is not installed, I'll explain how to proceed in the lines below.
On Android, look for the Uber app inside the Google Play Store (the virtual store of Android). Have you found it? Very well! Now tap on its icon and then press the button Install / Accetto in order to start the download and installation. Once the download has finished, you will be able to find the button apri, instead of the button Install / Agree. Now tap on the Open button to start the Uber application and see how it works with me, in the following lines.
How to download Uber on iOS
You can download the Uber app on iOS as well. All you have to do is search for the app in the search engine present in App Store (the virtual store of Apple devices) and, once you have found it, you will have to tap on its icon. At this point, to install it, press the button Ottieni / Installa. You will then only have to wait for the download to finish and you can then press the button apri to start it.
Once you have performed these preliminary steps, you are ready to begin to see in detail how the service works. So stick to the directions I am about to give you.
How to sign up for Uber
To start using the application you will need to register for the service by entering your phone number in the appropriate text field (make sure that the prefix of an in your languagen phone number is selected by tapping on the flag symbol and then on the symbol of down arrow: a drop-down menu will open where you can choose your nationality city) or by connecting using the account of a social network of your choice between Facebook and Google. Once you have entered the phone number, press the button with the symbol of forward arrow.
You will then have to enter the password, in case you already have an account with the service, or press on the item I do not have an account to continue.
If you have indicated your phone number, you will need to enter the code that will be sent to you via SMS in the appropriate text field. Once you have completed this preliminary procedure, you will need to provide an email address to use when registering with Uber. Then type it in the appropriate text field you see on the screen and press the button with the forward arrow symbol I will continue.
Then proceed by creating your password which will allow you to access your account. Enter it in the appropriate text field (you must create a password of at least 5 characters) and press the button with the forward arrow symbol I will continue.
Finally, indicate your name and surname in the appropriate text field and continue with the button with the forward arrow symbol I will continue.
You will then find yourself in the initial screen of the tutorial and you will have to press the button with the again forward arrow symbol to continue. Allow notifications to be sent and then activate location services from your device and allow Uber to access it.
How to view the quote for a trip
Once the Uber application has gained access to your location, it will ask you to possibly indicate the departure address that you can set as Home and the destination you want to reach via the text field Where we go? By tapping on it you can also indicate the place of work (just press on the item Add Job and indicate the address of your workplace).
If you want to plan a trip or a move, you can press the button with the symbol machine and clock that you find in correspondence with the text field in the center. By tapping on the button in question you can plan a ride, indicating the time and time you want. Then confirm the data indicated by pressing the button Choose your departure time.
As an additional option there is voice Set location on map; you can thus manually indicate the address of the destination to reach. I also advise you to press on the item Shows the locations of upcoming events. In this way, through the next screen, you can connect your calendar to the Uber application, being able to view the destinations of your upcoming events on the map.
Once you have indicated the starting position and the arrival destination, you will see on the map the route established by the Uber driver and the relative travel time to get to your destination. You will then be shown the available cars, among the most used ones and the cost of the route which varies depending on the car requested.
You can run a simulation yourself in order to test the operation of the application and evaluate the cost of the journey. In my test, the prices seem to be more or less in line with the more traditional taxi services.
Just to give you an example, by requesting a quote for a car that, from the outskirts of Milan, arrives at Linate airport (since it is the closest to reach) the cost of Uber is around 35/40 euros, while the cost of a taxi service for the same destination costs on average about 30/35 euros. Prices also vary according to the time of booking: traffic is not always the same and, to get to your destination at peak times, the journey time may increase and, consequently, the price as well.
To book a ride, you will then need to indicate the car you requested from among those in the Most used menu. In my test, the following vehicles were indicated as available:
- Uber black: the ride is carried out with the standard Uber car that accommodates from 1 to 4 people;
- Uber lux: the ride is carried out with an elegant car that can accommodate up to 4 people for a first class trip;
- Uber Van: by choosing this option you can book a more spacious car that can accommodate up to 6 people.
How to book a ride with Uber
Once you have viewed the route quote and chosen the car you wish to travel with, press the confirmation button that you find under the quote screen. You will then have to specify and confirm the starting point once again, press the button Confirmation start point then go to add a payment method. To perform this last operation, press the button Add Payment.
On the next screen you can indicate all the required data, choosing from the items Credit card or debt e PayPal. By choosing the option Credit or debit card you will have to indicate all the data relating to your credit card in the appropriate text fields (card number, expiration date, CCV and country), confirming them and then saving them in the application using the button Save.
On the other hand, if you decide to pay via account Paypal, you will need to log in to it on the next screen, indicating the login email and password and then pressing the button Log in.
As with taxi rides, you will also be provided with precise information on the car that will pick you up via Uber: in this way it will be very easy to locate the Uber car. During the journey the driver will already have all the information on the route available and it will not be necessary to provide directions.
Once you arrive at your destination, you will not have to pay for the journey in cash: the price will be charged to the account entered in the application.
How to get a discount code for Uber
A very interesting Uber feature that I want to tell you about is the possibility of being able to use Uber at a reduced price, obtaining a discount on the price of the first ride. This discount can be obtained by inviting friends to register on the application; after they have completed their first ride, you will be able to receive a free ride of up to 10 euros. These discounts are applied immediately in the application and you will be able to use them within 90 days from the date of issue.
To carry out the invitation procedure for friends, press the button with the menu symbol (three horizontal lines) and then, from the menu that you will see on the screen, press on the item Free races. On the next screen, you will be able to see your send code and press the button Invite your friends.
In the following screen, you will be able to choose the contacts to invite via your phone book. To do this, click on the button Link Contacts. Once you see the list of contacts, choose the person to invite from the list by tapping on the name and then press the button Invite Friends.
