How to open PEC attachments online
Most certified e-mail services provide an online service of Webmail, accessible via any browser, useful for reading received messages and for downloading and / or opening files attached to them. In general, all you need to do to use them is to connect to the login page of the service, enter your login credentials and, once you have reached the incoming mail, select the message that contains the attachment and execute the download for free using the appropriate item / button.
As for the InfoCert Legalmail service, for example, you need to connect to this Internet site, enter theuser ID / PEC address and Password in the appropriate text fields and click on the button Log in, to enter the certified e-mail box.
Next, click on the folder of the Incoming mail located on the left side of the page, highlight the message containing the attachment of your interest (the presence of the attached file is identified by a small icon in the shape of a clip) and, when this is opened, move to the part containing the email and scroll down the message, until you find the section Attachments. At this point, simply click on the file of your interest, indicate the folder on your computer in which to save it and open it with the most suitable program (eg. Word per i file .docx).
Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with precise information on all the existing PEC Webmail services, as there are so many! However, I can assure you that the instructions I have given you just now can be easily used for open PEC attachments Aruba, Postcert (Poste cittàne) and many other similar services.
How to open PEC attachments on PC
You followed my guide on how to enter another email from a client to configure the PEC mailbox in the email program you usually use on Windows, but now you don't have the faintest idea how to handle received attachments? No problem! Below I will provide you with the information you need to act through the most popular clients dedicated to the Microsoft operating system: Windows 10 Mail e Outlook.
Windows 10 Mail
To open PEC attachments in Windows 10 Mail, first start the program and select the folder Incoming mail related to your certified mail account.
After that, click on the message that contains the attachment you want to open, click on the file postacert.eml present in it and, in the new page that opens, locate the attachment of your interest: usually, the list of attached files is specified at the top of the e-mail message.
At this point, you just have to click on the attachment to open it immediately through the most suitable program, or right-click on its preview and select the item Save from the menu that appears, to download it to your computer.
Outlook
The operation of Outlook is quite similar to what we saw previously: after starting the program, click on the arrow located next to the certified e-mail account of your interest, to access the list of folders that are part of it, click on the Incoming mail and, from there, select the message that contains the attachment of your interest.
At this point, move to the right part of the window, click on the file postacert.eml to open the actual e-mail message and, in the screen that appears and locate the preview of the file you are interested in viewing; at this point, click on the button ▼ corresponding to it and, using the menu that appears, choose whether To open the attached, Print it, Save it or Upload it on the cloud.

At this point, scroll down the aforementioned message, double click on the file postacert.eml that you find at the bottom (the one that contains the real content of the email) and, once the next screen is open, go to the bottom of the email and identify the area dedicated to attachments, in which you should find the file you were looking for. At this point, right click on it and, through the menu that is proposed to you, choose if open the attached, save it, copy o share it.
Outlook
You need to open the attachments received in your PEC account configured in Outlook for Mac? I think I have very good news for you. You should know that the operation of the dedicated macOS version of Microsoft's email client is extremely similar to its counterpart for Windows. For this reason, you can follow the same steps seen above to be able to open and / or download the attached files of your interest.
How to open PEC attachments on Android
As for the management of PEC attachments on Android, you can choose at least two different modes: the first is to download them or view them through the apps made available by the PEC services (Aruba, Legalmail, Postcert and so on), the second, on the other hand, is to use a special e-mail client, for example K9 Mail. Find everything explained below.
PEC official apps
Some of the most well-known providers of PEC mailboxes, such as Aruba e InfoCert / Legalmail, for example, have dedicated apps for access to certified e-mail via Android device. In this case, the attachment management is quite simple: all you have to do is start the app, configure the PEC box (indicating, where required, the username and password to access the service), open the folder of the incoming mail and select the message that contains the attachment of your interest. Once this is done, you just have to identify the section on attachments and click on the option relative to download for free of the same.
If you use the PEC of InfoCert, for example, you need to download the Legalmail app for Android: after installing it, indicate theemail address and Password of the mailbox in the proposed fields and press the button NEXT to log in and view the folder immediately Incoming mail.
At this point, tap on the message of your interest and scroll down the screen, until you reach the end of the email: immediately after signing, there should be a dotted box containing the file attached to the message (even more than one, in the case of multiple files). To download the file to your phone, tap on the box and, to open it, press the file icon again. That's all!
Unfortunately I am not able to provide you with precise instructions for all existing PEC apps but, as I have already mentioned above, the steps are more or less the same as those already seen.
Gmail/EML Reader Free
If your PEC provider does not provide any proprietary app, you can download the messages received in your mailbox using a third-party app, such as K-9 Mail, an open source client available for free on the Play Store.
In this way, however, you will not be able to view the body of the message or its attachments, since this information is "encapsulated" in a file .eml, in turn attached to the PEC message: in order to manage this type of file, you must also download the app EML Reader Free, also available for free on the Play Store.
Once you've downloaded and installed both apps, launch K9-Mail, tocca il pulsating Following, indicate yours PEC email address and the relative Password in the appropriate fields, tap the button Manual configuration and then on the button IMAP; at this point, fill in the form proposed with i IMAP parameters (inbox) related to your PEC mailbox, tap the button again Following and indicates the parameters in the next screen SMTP (outbox) related to your account.
