How Live Protection works
After analyzing the devices and prices of Live Protection, I would say that you are ready to find out how to configure and use the kit to transform your home into a smart home: you will find all the information you need right below.
Kit installation
Once you have purchased the Live Protection Starter Kit, you must take it out of the sales package and install the various devices contained in it.
If it seems complicated to you, do not worry, the installation of the Starter Kit is included in the price, you will be contacted by a specialized technician who, after making an appointment, will help you to position and configure the devices in the best possible way.
The first step you need to take, therefore, is to connect it Smart Hub to the power supply and the home router, using the supplied cables (i.e. the power cable and the Ethernet cable respectively). Once this is done, access the hub using the appropriate button on the back of the device and wait for the 3 front LEDs to turn white (it will take about 30 seconds) you can proceed to install the other devices.
As regards the motorized video camera, before placing the latter in the room you want to monitor and in the position that you think is most congenial to your needs (knowing that you can remotely change the framing of 355 ° horizontally and 90 ° vertically), you must connect it to the router that you use to connect to the internet (via Ethernet cable) and, of course, to the power supply. After configuring it in the Live Protection app, you can connect it via Wi-Fi and therefore place it away from the router.
Il door / window sensor and motion sensor, on the other hand, they must first be activated, opening them and removing the safety tab on the battery contacts (the batteries are supplied, the correct functioning of the devices is signaled by the lighting of a red LED light), and then positioned where it is believed. more appropriate.
Finally, there is the smart socket, which must simply be connected to a wall socket (or a "power strip") and to which the appliance that you want to operate / turn off remotely, via the app, must be connected.
Initial setup of the Live Protection app
After installing the devices of the Live Protection kit, in order to manage them from your smartphone (or tablet), you need to install and configure the Live Protection app, which is available for free for Android and iOS.
Then start the default store of your device (Play Store if you use an Android or App Store if you're using an iPhone or iPad), search "live protection" within the latter and proceed with the installation of the app, by first tapping its icon in the search results and then on the button Ottieni / Installa, in the screen that opens. If you're using an iOS device, you may need to authorize the download using Face ID, Touch ID, or by entering your Apple ID password.
Once the download is complete, start the app Live Protection by tapping on its icon on the home screen and, if necessary, consent to receive notifications by the latter. Then press the button First access and type, in the fields Client code e Temporary password, the customer code and the temporary password you received via SMS from Live Protection.
At this point, tap the button NEXT, insertion l 'Activation Code (which you can find on the label on the back of the hub or user manual) and the Contract code (always present in the SMS you received from Live Protection) in the appropriate text fields and press again on NEXT.
Now, assign a name to your smart home system, go again forward, set up a Password to be used to access your Live Protection account (by typing it in the two related text fields) and press the button Save and finish, in order to start the procedure for activating your account: the operation may take a few seconds, so try to be patient and, in the meantime, do not close the app.
Once you have obtained the confirmation regarding the activation of the account, click on the button Sign in now, allow access to notifications e photo from the Live Protection app (if needed) and log in with the account details you just validated.
Once this is done, if firmware updates are available for the hub, you will be notified: to accept the download and installation of the latter (highly recommended), click on the button Firmware Update and wait patiently for everything to be completed. Then press the button Finish updating, to start managing your smart home devices.
Association of devices
To be able to manage your devices via the app, you must first associate them with the app. Then start the Live Protection app on your smartphone and press the button Add device present on the home page (the main application screen, accessible by pressing the house icon).
At this point, if you intend to associate the Live Protection app with a sensor or a smart socket, look for the pairing button on the device of your interest (on the sensors it is generally located next to the battery compartment, while on the smart socket it is on the side) and press it 3 or 4 times in a row.
Then wait for the app to recognize the device, type the name you want to assign to the latter in the appropriate text field and press the button Complete association, to complete the procedure. If you are asked to add the device to the LiveProtection rule, accept.
With regard to the video camera, on the other hand, the steps to be taken are different. First, go to the home page of the Live Protection app and press the buttons Add webcam (bottom left) e Proceed (to confirm that the camera is turned on and connected to the router via Ethernet cable).
At this point, wait for the camera to be detected by the app, select it, press the button Continue and choose whether to continue using it via link via Ethernet cable or whether to configure it for use in Wi-Fi: in the first case, you simply have to assign a name to the device (typing it in the appropriate text field) and press the buttons Save e Yes (to also confirm adding the camera to the LiveProtection rule). In the second case, instead, you have to select the WIFI network to connect the device to, enter the relevant access key and type the name you want to assign to the camera. In case of configuration in Wi-Fi, Live Protection suggests to use the Wi-Fi network of the Hub for greater security.
As an alternative to what I have just shown you, you can add new devices to the Live Protection app by going to the section devices of the same (the plug icon) and pressing the button + located at the top right. So choose whether to associate a device with Z-Wave sensor (e.g. a sensor or smart plug) or one video camera and then follow the instructions I gave you before (the steps to take are always the same).
Device management
Once the device pairing process is complete, you can view the status of the devices and manage them through the Live Protection app.
To be more precise, by going to the section devices application (the one marked with the plug icon), you can find the complete list of your devices and view the status of each of them. Pressing on the name of a device, in fact, opens a screen divided into two tabs: main, with device statistics updated in real time (eg. status of alarm detection, brightness e battery level for the motion sensor or energy, best before date, current consumption e tension for smart socket) ed Events, with the list of all recorded events (eg movements detected, for the motion sensor).
As for the smart socket, in the tab main, there is also a lever that allows you to turn the device on and off remotely. Furthermore, I point out that by tapping onicona dell'ingranaggio located at the top right, you can manage any selected device renaming it o eliminating it (thus dissociating it) from the app: just select one of the items that appear on the screen.
As regards the video camerainstead, in the tab main there are the real-time shots taken by the device, the buttons to move the frame (le directional arrows) and the one for video shooting (Rec), while in the card Video list there is the list of recorded videos. Pressing, then, onicona dell'ingranaggio located at the top right, you can change the name of the camera and activate / deactivate the Wi-Fi connection for it.
Please note that you can access the management pages of your devices also by going to the home page of the Live Protection app (the one marked with the house icon), selecting the device of your interest and then the item Show give the menu check if you press.
Pressing onicona dell'ingranaggio placed at the top right, however, you can check the availability of firmware updates for the hub and change the Wi-Fi password.
Regole
Le rules allow you to program the Live Protection hub with policy-based automatisms IF-THEN (IF-THEN). In a nutshell, it is possible to set the devices that are part of the kit so that, under certain conditions, specific operations are performed. For example, you can have the surveillance camera trigger automatically when a motion sensor detects motion and automatically send an alert to the user. Or you could configure a rule that is active only at night which turns on a courtesy light connected to the smart socket when there is a movement in the corridor.
There is also a default rule in the app, Live Protection, which can be activated or deactivated thanks to the special levers in the home page and in rules list (the screen marked with the folder icon), but which cannot be deleted.
The Live Protection rule ensures that all devices added to it, in the event that a triggering event occurs (e.g. the detection of a movement by the motion sensor or the opening of a door detected by the door / window sensor ), start the filming of the video camera, push or email notifications and the call to the customer by the Live Protection Call Center. Videos recorded by the camera remain available on the cloud for 14 days and can be accessed by selecting the icon Cloud dall’home page dell’app Live Protection.
To create a custom rule, go to rules list Live Protection app (the folder icon) and press the button +, located at the top right. Alternatively, go tohome page application and press the icon Add rule.
In the screen that is proposed to you, then type the name you intend to assign to your rule, using the text field located at the top. Then press the button Add deviceIn section SE, and choose a device from those available (e.g. the motion sensor). Then indicate thespecial event which must activate the rule (eg. alarm detection), then a value relative to the latter (eg. movement o no movement, in the case of the motion sensor) and press the button Save, to move forward.
At this point, if you deem it appropriate, click on the button Add device related to the section AT THAT TIME and choose which device to activate when the previously set condition occurs. For example, you could select the video camera, therefore an action related to it (eg. start recording) and make sure that when the condition specified above occurs (e.g. motion detection by the motion sensor) a video recording is started. By default, the action is also triggered Notifications, which allows you to receive a warning when the condition specified in the section occurs SE.
Per concludere, premium pulsating (+) Add, choose, if you wish, the days of the week and the times in which to apply the rule you are creating and press the buttons Continue, Ends e Save, to save it all. To activate the rule, you will need to move up ON the relative lever in the rules list di Live Protection.
Scenarios
- scenery allow you to group multiple rules or devices and control them all with a single touch, activating or deactivating them according to your needs. To give you a practical example, you could create a scenario to turn multiple rules on and off at the same time or to turn on or off multiple devices at the same time.
To create a new scenario, log in to scenario list Live Protection app (the magic wand icon) and press the button +, located at the top right. Alternatively, go tohome page application and press the icon Add scenario.
At this point, use the field located at the top to assign a name to the scenario you are about to create, then press the button Add rule or deviceselect il device or the rule you want to understand in the scenario and indicate how this should be when the scenario is active (active o deactivated). Once this is done, it also indicates how the device or rule should be when the scenario is disabled (active o deactivated) and the first button Save, per salvare ichangementi.
Now repeat the same procedure for all the devices and / or rules you want to include in the scenario and, when you are done, press the button Ends, to save it all. If you want, by pressing on Magic wand located next to the rule name, you can also assign acustom icon to the latter.
Once created, you can manage your scenarios and choose when to activate or deactivate them by going to the scenario list or in the home page dell’app Live Protection.
