Basic functionality
Before seeing in depth how an LG Smart TV works and what are its most prominent features, I want to briefly explain the basic features. There are in fact some buttons worthy of mention on the remote control of the television itself. If you read the following lines carefully, you will then be able to quickly access some of the most interesting settings and features.
The first button you need to know how to use is the one you need to turn on the television. From the remote control of the LG Smart TV you have to press the red button (it is the one with the symbol of a switch).
A little further below there is the numeric keypad that will allow you to choose the television channels to view by typing their number. The keys capacitor positive (+) lead e negative (-) lead in correspondence of the striangle symbol they are clearly those of the volume (respectively to increase or decrease it); the keys they represent an up arrow e a down arrow at the P symbolinstead, they allow you to quickly change channels.
Other keys that affect important features of your LG Smart TV are the button with the magnifying glass symbol which allows you to quickly search on the Internet, or within the LG digital store; For example, you can quickly search and install apps.
Then there is the symbol of a small house which allows you to view the main menu of the LG Smart TV and the button back which allows you to go back. You can use it for example to view the TV channel you were previously viewing or to go back to the internal menu items of your LG Smart TV.
Other buttons on the remote control that concern useful functions that you can access are the directional arrows that allow you to move quickly within the menu of your LG Smart TV and the central button that allows you to select an item in the television menu .
Finally there is also the 3D button which allows you to quickly activate and deactivate the 3D mode, if this is available and supported by your LG Smart TV. Also don't forget about the button with the symbol of a plug, from the moment it allows you to view the list of sources, while the button with gear symbol allows you to quickly access the settings menu.
How to connect LG Smart TV to the Internet
To connect the LG Smart TV to the Internet, first press the power button on the remote control: it is the red button at the top that has the switch symbol.
Once the television is turned on, from the remote control press the Home button which is the one that presents the symbol of a small house. You will then be able to view the main menu on the television screen.
Using the pointer on your remote, click on the icon with the gear symbol which you can find at the top right. A side drop-down menu will open on the right and you will then need to click the button with the three dots symbol (is called All settings).
This will open the menu dedicated to the TV settings; at this point you must identify the section dedicated to the possibility of connecting the television to the Internet. Then scroll through the items you will see on the screen until you find the wording Network. Click on it to enter the specific settings menu that will allow you to access the Internet and, at this point, you can choose whether to connect the Internet television via a wired connection, and then via Ethernet cable, or whether to make a Wi-Fi connection. Fi and therefore without necessarily needing an Ethernet cable.
In case you want to make a wired connection you will need to have the Ethernet cable. Then connect one end of the cable to the modem you use to browse the Internet through your home network and then connect the other end of the cable to the Ethernet port located on the back of your TV. Then wait for the connection to be made correctly and for your LG television to be actually connected to the Internet. If successful, in the settings menu, under the heading Network e Wired Ethernet connection you will see the wording appear Connected to the Internet.
In case you want to make a connection to the Internet in Wi-Fi, then in wireless mode, you have to press on the wording Wifi connection which you can find in the network settings of your LG Smart TV.
Then pressing on the item Wifi connection you will be able to see the list of nearby networks to which you can connect freely, if they are free. If you want to connect to your home network instead, click on the wording that represents your network and type, if requested, the access password that was provided to you by your carrier.
Once you have entered the password, to connect via Wi-Fi you will have to press the button Connect that you can see located a little further down. In the event that the connection to the Internet via Wi-Fi is successful, you will see the wording Connected to the Internet next to the menu item Wifi connection which is located in the network settings of the LG television.
How to download applications
Once you have connected your LG Smart TV to the Internet, you can download applications very easily. The first thing you need to do is press on the button Home of the remote control, i.e. the one with the house symbol. You will then be able to view the main menu of your LG Smart TV once again and to download the apps, you will need to access the LG virtual store, called LG Content Store.
Then use your remote control to locate the virtual store of your LG Smart TV using the side arrows; the application has the symbol of a shopping bag. Then click on it with the central button of the remote control to open it: you will then be able to see the main screen dedicated to all the applications that can be installed. If you wish, you can scroll the page with the directional arrows to locate other applications to download and install on your LG Smart TV.
To download an app on your LG Smart TV, you can also use the internal search engine of LG Content Store, through which you can search for a specific app to install. To do this, once you have launched the LG Content Store, you can click on one of the icons located at the top.
For example, the icon with the symbol of a P., called Premium allows you to view a list of popular applications, the icon with the controller symbol allows you to view the list of equally popular applications and games, the icon with il little man symbol it is relative to your personal page and then shows you all the apps you have installed on the LG Smart TV. Finally, the icon with the magnifying glass symbol, called Near, allows you to type the name of a specific application to search for.
Keep in mind that even if the applications featured in LG's digital store are free, you may be required to pay for the use of some products and services contained within them. Just to give you an example, you can install the Netflix application for free, but you will then have to pay the subscription to the service to be able to access all the multimedia contents of the streaming platform.
Once you have identified the application you want to install, via LG Content Store, click on it with the central button of the remote control and then install it by pressing the button Installation. At the end of the installation you can start it by pressing the button starts that will have appeared.
To start a previously installed app, you can also press the button with the house symbol from your remote control and, once you have displayed the main menu of the LG Smart TV, search for the application in the list of those on the screen. By clicking on its icon that you will see on the screen (it is its shortcut to be clear) you will be able to start it much faster.
How to activate 3D
If your LG Smart TV also supports 3D mode, know that you can use it to view multimedia content that supports this particular view. To activate it, just press the button 3D of which you can see located on the remote control.
Pressing the 3D button will activate the mode in question and you can choose which 3D mode to activate specifically: if the physical content media or the multimedia content you are playing supports 3D viewing, then you should already view the content in 3D mode, after having pressed the button of the same name on your remote control.
At this point you just have to wear the 3D glasses (they may have been supplied with you following the purchase of the Smart TV) to view the content in this particular mode. To deactivate the 3D mode, just press the button 3D from the remote control; you will return to the two-dimensional view.
