How to download uTorrent Mac
Before seeing in detail how to use uTorrent Mac, you need to download and install the application on your computer. Then connect to the uTorrent website and click on the button Free download for Mac to start the program download.
When the download is complete, open the dmg package you just downloaded from the Internet and launch the executable uTorrent which is contained within it. In the window that opens, click in sequence on the buttons apri, Continue, Decline e Done and the uTorrent installation process will be completed without downloading any promotional content.
How to set up uTorrent Mac
After installing uTorrent on your Mac, you need to configure your router to allow the program to accept incoming connections. This operation is called door opening and allows uTorrent to download files from the BitTorrent network at the maximum possible speed.
To open the port used by uTorrent in the router, you need to find out which port is in question. So start uTorrent, go to the menu uTorrent> Preferences located at the top left, select the tab Network from the window that opens and mark the number in the text field Inbound TCP port (next to which there will most likely be a red light, a sign that the door is locked).
If the uTorrent interface is not in In your lenguagen, but in English, translate it by going to the menu uTorrent> Preferences, selecting the scheda General from the window that opens and setting theIn your lenguagen in the drop-down menu for choosing the language (at the bottom of the window). An application restart is required for the changes to take effect.
How to open ports for uTorrent Mac
You are now ready to take action and properly configure your router. Then open the browser you usually use to surf the Internet (eg. Safari o Chrome) and linked to the address 192.168.1.1 oppure all'indirizzo 192.168.0.1 to access the router configuration panel. You will be asked for a combination of username and password: if you have not changed them, your login details to the device administration panel should be admin / admin o admin / password.
If you cannot find the right address of your router and / or the combination of username and password necessary to access it, try to follow the instructions I have given you in my tutorials on how to find the router IP address and how to see the password of modem and router.
Once logged in, look for the option relating toPort forwarding or to Virtual Server in the router configuration panel and start creating one new rule or new virtual server. On the page that opens, fill out the form that is proposed to you by following the instructions below.
- Internal door /Initial port - type the uTorrent port number.
- External door / Final door - type the uTorrent port number in this field as well.
- Destination IP /Server IP address - type the local IP address of the computer on which you intend to use uTorrent. If you don't know what your computer's local IP address is, find out by following the directions in my tutorial on how to view your IP address.
- Your name - type any name to recognize your rule (eg uTorrent Mac).
- Door type/Protocol - select the "TCP" value.
After filling out the form, click on the button Save / Apply and the changes will be applied instantly.

If you use an Apple router, that is a Airport Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule, to open the port used by uTorrent you have to open the AirPort Utility included in macOS, you have to click on the icon related to your router and you have to press the button Modification present in the box that opens (if this is the first time you are using the AirPort Utility, you may be asked to type in the router password).
In the window that opens, select the tab Network, click on the button [+] located at the bottom of the box Port settings and fill out the form that is proposed to you by typing the name you want to assign to the rule (eg. uTorrent) in the field Description, the port number of uTorrent in the fields Public TCP port (s) e Private TCP port (s) and your Mac's local IP address in the field Private IP address. Then click on the button Update, accept the restart of the router and that's it.
Once the router configuration is complete, restart uTorrent for Mac, go back to the menu Preferences> Network and the traffic light next to the entry Inbound TCP port it should have turned green.
How to use uTorrent Mac
Now you can start use uTorrent Mac to download your favorite files from the Internet. So connect to Zooqle, TorrentSeeker or any other site that allows you to search for content on the BitTorrent network and search for the files of your interest.
When the search results appear, make sure they are sorted by the number of seeders e peer (i.e. the number of complete and partial sources available) and click on the name of the file of your interest.
At this point, click on the button downoad to download the link .torrent to the file you just selected; open the file .torrent you just downloaded to your computer by double clicking on it and uTorrent should start automatically. Then confirm the download of the file from the BitTorrent network by clicking on the button OK and let the program run until the download is complete.
If you want to change the folder where uTorrent saves the files (by default it is the Download), expand the drop-down menu Save eat and select the item Other da quest'ultimo.
uTorrent also supports so-called magnet link, links now very popular on Torrent sites that allow you to download files with a simple click without first having to download the .torrent links on your computer. To use it correctly, click on the icon magnet which is on the download page of the file you want to download with uTorrent, reply Allow the warning that appears on the screen and the program will "intercept" it automatically.
In terms of download speed and security there are no big differences between .torrent files and magnet links, just choose the ones that seem most comfortable to you. Just know that the magnet links take a few seconds longer to start the download but they do not use the server trackers to steal the "coordinates" of the download (which potentially makes them longer than the .torrent files).
If, by clicking on a magnet link or opening a .torrent file, uTorrent does not start but another P2P client installed on your Mac (eg. Transmission), you need to set uTorrent as the default application for downloading Torrent files. How you do it? It's very simple, I'll explain it to you right away.
To make uTorrent the default program for opening .torrent files and magnet links, start the latter, select the item Pref Renze from the menu uTorrent (top left) and go to the card General present in the window that opens. After that, click on the button Check now and confirm that you want to set uTorrent as the default Torrent client.
If, on the other hand, you want to adjust the maximum upload and download speed that uTorrent must reach (personally I suggest you limit the upload to about 80% of the available bandwidth to avoid a decrease in general connection performance), go to the tab Band and fill in the appropriate text fields.

Another trick that I highly recommend you to implement is that related to the use of a VPN, that is, a virtual private network, through which use the BitTorrent network and browse online anonymously, without being tracked by ISPs or malicious people and also having the ability to skip regional blocks, censorship and access foreign catalogs of streaming services. There are many VPN solutions to turn to: among the most reliable and cheap ones, I point out NordVPN (which I told you about in depth here) and Surfshark, which have many servers around the world and work everywhere: PC / Mac, smartphone, tablet and other devices.
