Preliminary information
Prima di enter the live of this tutorial and spiegarti how to use Netflix Party, it is necessary to make a necessary premise regarding the devices compatible with the service in question and the requirements necessary to use it.
Netflix Party is only accessible on a computer and is only available as an extension for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium e Opera (the latter two browsers support Chrome extensions and are therefore compatible with Netflix Party).
To use the service it is therefore necessary that all participants in the "synchronized" viewing have downloaded and installed the Netflix Party extension on one of the compatible browsers, but not only that: they must also have an active Netflix subscription.
To understand better, let's take a practical example. If your intention is to watch a movie together remotely on Netflix with four friends, all five must have installed the Netflix Party extension and have an account and an active subscription on the famous streaming service. Also, it is my duty to point out that Netflix Party is an unofficial extension and, for this reason, although there is no reason to doubt the good faith of its developers (in the Netflix Party FAQ it is well specified that the service uses the end-to-end encryption and does not store any details relating to its users' Netflix accounts), as it accesses Netflix data, it could pose a potential privacy risk. Therefore, use it only if strictly necessary and, after using it, uninstall it from the browser.
How to use Netflix Party on PC and Mac
Having made this necessary initial premise, the time has come to move on to the work. First, start one of the compatible browsers (eg. Chrome), connected to the official Netflix Party website, click on the button Install Netflix Party, at the top right, and proceed as indicated below, depending on the browser you are using.
- Chrome: To complete the Netflix Party installation, select the option Add to Chrome and press pulsating Add extension;
- Microsoft Edge based on Chromium: click on the buttons Get e Add extension and wait for the installation of the Netflix Party extension to complete;
- Opera: after clicking on the button Install Netflix Party, if you haven't already, click on the option Installing the extension to install Install Chrome Extensions, the add-on that allows you to install Chrome extensions on Opera. Then click on the button Add to opera, tap on the item OK e seleziona l'opzione Install, to install Netflix Party.
If all went well, you should see the Netflix Party icon (the written NP in red) at the top right of the browser in use. If any steps are not clear to you, I invite you to consult my guide on how to download Netflix Party.
At this point, connect to the official Netflix site and, if you have not already done so, log in to your account. To do this, click on the button Log in, at the top right, enter your data in the fields Email or phone number e Password and click on the button Log in; then select yours vision profile.
Once this is done, locate the content you want to watch with your friends, click on the relevant button Play and interrupt the riproduzione premendo sul pulsating Pause. Then click on the Netflix Party icon (the written NP in red, at the top right of the browser window), put the check mark next to the option Only i have control, if you want to prevent the control of the reproduction of the content to other users who will watch it with you, and press the button Start the party, but I will create your vision.
In the new window that has opened at the top right, click on the item Copy url, to copy the URL of the newly created viewing room, and send the newly obtained address to all people who wish to watch the chosen content with you. In the same window, you can also choose whether to show or hide the Netflix Party chat, by placing or removing the check mark next to the option Show chat.
If you have chosen to leave the chat active, you can customize your profile by clicking on the icon cookieat the top right of the Netflix screen. By doing so, you can enter the name to be displayed in the chat in the field Add a nickname, while pressing the icon again cookie, you can select one of the twenty icons available to associate with your profile.
To send a new message, instead, enter the text in the field Type a message and press the button Submit on the keyboard. In this regard, I would like to clarify that any messages published in the chat of the service, as soon as all the participants leave the viewing room, are permanently deleted from the Netflix Party servers.
How do you say? You did not create the viewing room but you received theURL to participate in the "synchronized" viewing of content with Netflix Party? In this case, after installing the extension in question on your browser, all you have to do is open the link that was sent to you. Also in this case, if the user who organized the party has left the chat active, you can customize your profile and send new messages, as I indicated in the previous lines.
As soon as all the people invited are ready for viewing, press the ▶ ︎ button (which you can do even if you are not the party organizer, as long as the latter has not deactivated this option), to start playing the content chosen and enjoy the viewing together with your friends.
When viewing is complete, to exit Netflix Party, you can simply close the browser window (or tab), while to end the party you can click on the Netflix Party icon (the written NP in red) and press the button Disconnect.
How to use Netflix Party on phone
Be your intention è use Netflix Party on your phone, I'm sorry to tell you that this is not possible. At the time of writing this guide, Netflix Party is not available as an application for either Android devices or iPhone / iPad.
Also, since none of the Netflix Party compatible browsers support extensions on mobile devices, you cannot use the service in question via Chrome, Edge and Firefox either.
That said, if you were planning on watching Netflix with your friends and don't have a computer available, you can use Rave, a free application for Android devices (also available on alternative stores, for devices without Google services) and iPhone / iPad that works almost identical to Netflix Party but which, unlike the latter, also supports many other services video streaming, such as Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and Vimeo (with Reddit support as well).
