How Discovery + works
To discover how Discovery + works, connected to the home page of the service and browse the contents present in the latter: at the top you can find the cover pictures with the most interesting programs of the moment; further down, however, you can view the list with Latest added (so with the latest videos uploaded to Discovery +), the list of contents Discovery + originals (i.e. the content distributed exclusively on the platform), in addition to that of news and programs more seen.
Also, you can find playlist topics dedicated to various programs, the list of Live channels (to browse programs based on the channels they originally aired on), Videos (to view movies) and other categories of content, such as those dedicated to programs Recommended.
Alternatively, if you want, you can click on the items related to the main categories available in the top menu.
- Programs - to view the complete list of available programs.
- Channels - browse the available contents, based on the channel on which they originally aired.
- Live - to view live streaming programs, for example rugby matches or episodes of shows such as “Amici di Maria De Filippi” or “Fratelli di Crozza”.
- Genres: to view all the macro categories relating to the genres of available programs.
- WWE: to access the section dedicated to wrestling programs.
- Free: to view the list of all programs available for free viewing.
Do you want to search for a particular content? No problem: click onicona della lens d'ingrandimento located at the top right, type the title of the program, series or film of your interest and select one of the suggestions that appear automatically at the bottom. If no suggestions appear, it means that the title of any content available on Discovery + matches the search terms you typed.
When you find a program that interests you, click on its preview image and you will be redirected to a page with the description of the content (at the top) and the list of episodes that compose it (below). In the case of TV programs and series consisting of several seasons, the episodes are divided, precisely, into seasons. If you want to see all the episodes that make up a season, click on the entry Show more.
To start playing specific content, such as an episode of a TV program, click on thepreview image of the latter and presses the ▶ ︎ button, in case the playback does not start automatically.
Once content playback has started, you can use the player controls to stop and resume viewing (using the ⏸ and ▶ ︎ buttons), to adjust the volume (the adjustment bar that appears when you move the mouse cursor over thespeaker icon), to move from one point to another in the video (the timeline below) and activate the display a full screen (l'icona del rectangle bottom right).
How to register for Discovery +
To get the most out of Discovery +, you need to create an account. By creating an account, in fact, you will be able to create a list with your favorite contents, receive editorial advice on the contents that may interest you and maintain the viewing progress of your programs, synchronizing them on all your devices.
To create your account, click on the button with the little man icon located at the top right and then presses the button Accedi con Facebook, to register quickly through this social network. Alternatively, to register with a different email address, press Register now placed in the box that opens. Then, on the next screen that is shown to you, click on the button Subscribe, to create an account for free.
If, on the other hand, you wish to subscribe to one of the optional subscription plans, click on the button Try it for free, to activate the subscription a Discovery + (which gives access to some exclusive channels and programs and removes advertising), after 7 days of free trial, or click on the button Activate it now, to activate the subscription plan Discovery + and Eurosport, at a cost of € 7,99 / month (which offers all the benefits of the plan Discovery + and adds the ability to watch channels and sports programs from Eurosport). The subscription renews automatically, but as there is no renewal constraint, it can be deactivated at any time.
In both cases, in the next screen that is shown to you, fill in all the fields relating to the required data, such as e-mail, password, name, last name, date of birth e sex; put the check mark next to the items relating to acceptance of the terms of use of the service and click on the button Send, but I will complete the registration.
If you have chosen to subscribe to a subscription plan, also fill in the text fields in the section Payment, through which it is necessary to add a payment method (credit card o PayPal), and press the button Pay, to activate the free trial version or subscribe.
Once you have registered a Discovery +, you will see the section appear on the Home Page Continue to keep, which includes the history of videos you've recently viewed, with the ability to resume watching where you left off.
Do you want to change your personal profile data? Nothing easier: click onicona dell'omino located at the top right and use the module located in correspondence with the section My Profile. When it is finite, click on the button Update, to save the changes. From the same screen you can also adjust preferences related to receiving newsletter e delete your account.
How to see Discovery + on smartphones and tablets
Discovery + it is also accessible from smartphones and tablets: just download the official app of the service for Android o iOS and log in with your account if you want to access the functions reserved for registered users.
If you have a device Android, then open the Play Store, search for Discovery + within the latter and first tap on the application icon in the search results and then on the buttons Install e Accept. If you are reading this tutorial directly from Android, you can access the Play Store page dedicated to the app by tapping here. Alternatively, if your device does not have the Play Store, you can download the app from alternative stores.
If, on the other hand, you have a iPhone or iPad, apr l 'App Store, select the scheda Search located at the bottom right and search Discovery +. At this point, locate the application icon in the search results and press the button Ottieni / Installa to proceed with the installation of the latter, verifying your identity via Touch ID, Face ID or following the entry of the Apple ID password. Alternatively, if you are reading this post directly from your iOS / iPadOS device, you can open the App Store page dedicated to Discovery+ pressing here.
When installation is complete, start the official application of Discovery + to find you in front of its main screen (Home), which is very similar to the home page of the desktop version of the service: at the top are the cover pictures with the contents in evidence, while at the bottom there are the contents divided by categories (Latest added, New, Live and so on).
Pigiando sull'icona della magnifying glass located at the top right you can search for the content of your interest based on the title, while pressing the button Channels or on the one named Programs, both located at the bottom, you can instead access the complete section of the channels and programs available. There is also selection Live, which allows you to view the TV guide and start playing the programs currently on air. The button with the little man symbol instead, it is the key to press, to carry out theaccesso.
To log in to Discovery + and access your previously played content, press, then, onicona dell'omino and then on the button Log in. Then enter your account data (e-mail e Password) and tap the button Subscribe, to log in via email.
If, on the other hand, you had previously registered with Facebook, press the button Continue with Facebook, to log in with the latter. In case you have not yet registered to your account, you can also proceed via the app, by pressing the button Register here, in order to proceed with the creation of an account, entering all the required data relating to yours email address, to yours personal data and yours Password.
Once logged in to Discovery +, you can resume watching the videos you had left pending on other devices by selecting them from the section Continue to keep present on the home screen of the app.
For the rest, there is not much to add: to start playing a content, all you have to do is select its cover image and then thepreview image of the episode you intend to watch. Easier than that ?!
How to watch Discovery + on TV
The contents of Discovery + they are also accessible from TV. Therefore, if you own one Samsung Smart TV or a TV based on the operating system Android TV, you can access the store of your TV and download the official app of the service by searching for it within the latter. Unfortunately, no other Smart TV models other than those listed above are supported at the moment. Once you have downloaded the Discovery + app, you will be able to access all its contents just like on PCs, smartphones and tablets.
Don't have a Smart TV? Don't worry: you can still access the Discovery + catalog from TV using a chromecast or anApple TV. If you have a Chromecast, start the Discovery + app on your smartphone or tablet, press theChromecast icon located at the top right (the screen with the Wi-Fi waves next to it) and select the name of your Chromecast in the box that opens. Then choose the content to watch and it will automatically be projected on your TV. For the procedure to be successful, the smartphone or tablet must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast.
If you have an Apple TV instead, you can access Discovery + starting theApp Store (the white “A” icon on a blue background), looking for the application Discovery + inside the latter and proceeding with its installation. Once the procedure is complete, start the Discovery + app and you will be able to access all the contents of the service just like on PC, smartphone and tablet. The above procedure is valid only for 4th generation Apple TV e Apple TV 4K: Older models of the device do not include an app store.
In case of problems
You're having trouble playing the content on Discovery +? Can't access the service? Here are some tips that may help you remedy the situation.
- Restart the modem / router. You can do this by using the appropriate button in the device's administration panel or by holding down the button Reset, which is usually found on the back of the latter. The "Reset" button is almost always recessed, so to press it you will need to use a pointed object (eg a pencil).
- Disable extensions and toolbars in the browser. If you don't know how, read my tutorials on how to delete extensions from Chrome, how to delete extensions from Firefox and how to delete toolbar.
- Delete the data from the browser cache and reload the page. If you don't know how to clear the cache, read my tutorial dedicated to the topic.
- Check the strength of the Wi-Fi signal. Discovery + delivers HD resolution content via adaptive streaming technology. This means that if the connection is not strong enough, the videos are shown in standard definition. If you have an ADSL or Fiber connection and are unable to view high quality content, check that the Wi-Fi signal strength is sufficient. - Access Discovery + from the city. If you access Discovery + from abroad, some content may be blocked. To fully benefit from the service, therefore, you must connect from the city.
- Use the official Discovery + applications for smartphones, tablets and Smartphones TV. If you are trying to access Discovery + via the browser integrated in your smartphone, tablet or Smart TV, download the official app of the service and use that to view the available content.
