Preliminary information
Come già accennato in opening of the post, SumUp is a system that allows merchants to accept electronic payments by credit or debit card, using a portable device called a card reader.
SumUp accepts circuit cards Visa, V PAY, MasterCard, Maestro, American Express, Discover, Diners Club o China UnionPay. In addition, payments made via are accepted NFC means Google Pay e Apple Pay.
SumUp has no fixed monthly fees or costs: you only need to pay the cost of the reader and one 1,95% commission on all successful transactions. So far all clear? Well, then we can get to the heart of the procedure.
How to get SumUp
If you want to claim your SumUp device, visit the SumUp website home page and click the button Log in, che trovi in alto a destra.
Now, without entering your login credentials, click the button Create an account that you find immediately below the blue rectangle that you use to access. Then select, from the drop-down list, the Country where your business is registered and click on the blue button Continue.
At this point, in the left sidebar, use the two input fields to provide yours email address it's a Password, with which you will log into your SumUp account. To finish the registration, put a check mark next to the item I accept the processing and sharing of my personal data as required for the use of the SumUp service and as indicated in the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy and click the blue button Continue.
Now you have to choose a card reader between SumUp Air and SumUp 3G: the web page will show you a summary table of the features and cost of each of them. In any case, do not worry: in the next chapters, I will explain well what are the differences and the requirements of each model.
Once you have selected your preferred card reader, you will be automatically redirected to the order confirmation page: here you must enter yours personal data, as well as the information necessary for the shipment and payment of the chosen card reader. You can pay by Bank transfer o credit card. The card reader will be delivered in 3-5 business days.
When you have finished entering the requested data and have verified its correctness, proceed by clicking on the button Confirm your order located in the right sidebar.
How SumUp Air works
Water Sum Up is the card reader that connects via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet, using the Wi-Fi network or mobile data to make transactions.
Therefore, it is not an autonomous device, as it works thanks to a special application that must be installed on the smartphone or tablet to which the reader is connected.
The reader is equipped with an internal rechargeable battery capable of providing sufficient autonomy to carry out approximately 500 transactions.
It is important to pay attention to the requirements that must be met by the device that will connect to the card reader: in addition to version 4.0 of the Bluetooth protocol, it must have, as an operating system, a Android 4.4 or later (in the case of Android terminals) or iOS 9.0 or later (in the case of iPhone / iPad).

Installation
The SumUp Air installation procedure is standard and there are no substantial differences between Android and iPhone / iPad devices. First, you need to activate the Bluetooth and install theSumUp application.
If you are using a smartphone or tablet Android, place your finger on the top bar of your device screen and drag it down. At the top of the menu shown on the screen are several switches: locate the icon for the Bluetooth (the stylized "B") and tap on it to activate this connectivity. Once this is done, to install the application, go to the dedicated page on the Play Store and tap the button Install, then wait for the progress bar to complete.
Be, invent, possiedi a iPhone or iPad, bring up the Control Center by swiping from the top right corner down (if you have an iPhone X or later) or from the bottom of the screen to the top (if you have an iPhone 8/8 Plus or earlier) and, if necessary, click on the icon Bluetooth (the stylized letter "B"), to activate this connectivity. At this point, all you have to do is install the SumUp app by visiting the dedicated page of the App Store and tapping the button Ottieni / Installa. You may be asked to confirm obtaining the application using Face ID, touch ID or entering the Password dell'ID Apple.

When installation is complete, open theSumUp application and log in by entering the credentials you created when you registered and ordered the card reader. To start the scan, then enter the minimum amount of 1 € e tocca il pulsating Pay. At this moment, the scan will start and the card reader, which must obviously be in the vicinity of your device, will automatically activate.
Once the connection is established, the player will signal that it is in the process of setting for the first transaction: a process that takes about a couple of minutes.
Finally, I would like to point out that, depending on the software version installed on your device and card reader, you may be asked to confirm the last three digits of the serial number of your card reader or enter a pairing code: in this case, the instructions will be shown on the display.
Payments
To make a transaction, open the application of SumUp on your smartphone / tablet and log in with your credentials. At this point, type in the transaction amount and, if desired, a description of the product and tap the button Charges.
At this point, he invites the customer to lay down his card contactless/NFC on the top of the reader, until a beep and the four bright LEDs signal the correct data transfer.
To authorize the transaction, the customer must enter their own PIN or sign on the screen, then press the button with the green check mark. Both the reader and the connected device will show a notification on the screen confirming the success of the transaction.
In conclusion, you can send a receipt to the customer, by entering his email address or his cellphone number in the corresponding field. The game is done: you will receive the credit on your bank account within 2-3 working days.
How SumUp 3G works
The reader SumUp 3G it is an autonomous device, which does not require the use of a smartphone or tablet to work, as it is equipped with an integrated SIM card. The included plan provides unlimited and free mobile data, under the 3G mobile network. SumUp 3G is equipped with a rechargeable battery that allows you to make about 50 transactions on a single charge.
Installation
Setting up SumUp 3G is pretty straightforward. The first thing you need to do is turn on the device by pressing the power button, then you have to select the desired language and wait for the player to establish the connection.
At this point, insertionemail address and Password that you created when you signed up: you can use the virtual keyboard via the touch-screen and physical numeric keypad of your reader.
To end the procedure, enter the minimum amount of 1 €, when you are offered a screen with the words Enter the amount, then confirm your first transaction by pressing the key with the green check mark.
Payments
Making a transaction should also be an extremely simple process with SumUp 3G - first, hit the power button to turn on the player and, before pressing the button with the green check mark, type l 'amount of the transaction.
At this point, the customer can place their card or NFC device on the reader screen, insert the card at the bottom of the reader or swipe the magnetic strip of the card along the top of the device. If requested, the customer must also enter their own PIN or sign on the screen, then press the button with the green check mark.
Finally, respond to the notification Send receipt selecting, below, No receipt, Send email receipt or Send SMS receipt and ask your customer to enter their contact details. Have you seen? It's easier done than said: in 3-5 working days, the sum will be credited to your bank account.
