Storytel pricing
As already mentioned at the beginning of the post, Storytel provides an Unlimited subscription plan equal to 9,99 euro / month o 89,99 euro / year, however, a trial period of 14 days without any obligation to renew: this means that you can register for the service, cancel the automatic renewal of the subscription and use it for 14 days without spending a cent.
Another important thing to point out is that students are entitled to a 50% discount on the Unlimited subscription: as soon as the account is created, you can request verification of the Student ID via SheerID and, after verification, get a 50% discount on the subscription, which will therefore cost only € 4,99 / month instead of € 9,99 / month. Alternatively there is the plan Unlimited+ what it costs 14,99 euro / month (always with 14-day free trial for new members) and includes two Unlimited accounts and two Kids accounts connected to the same subscription at a discounted price. By activating it, each user can access their account, with their email address and can read and listen to the books available in the entire Storytel selection at the same time. Each account also has its own private library. With two accounts, you can use four devices simultaneously (two with access to the entire selection of Storytel and two with Kids Mode, therefore with access only to the Kids category). Although the activation of the trial requires the insertion of a valid payment method (credit, debit or rechargeable Visa, MasterCard or PostePay card), no charges are made until the automatic renewal of the subscription is triggered. Also, I point out that there are Gift card that allow you to take advantage of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months of Storytel and can be purchased directly from the official website of the service.
Compatible devices
Storytel is designed for listening to audiobooks from smartphones and tablets: its app is compatible with most Android devices (including those with HUAWEI AppGallery) and with iOS devices (therefore iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch) equipped with iOS 11.0 or later (with also support for Apple Watch, to listen to audiobooks directly from the smartwatch).
The service can also be accessed from a computer, using any web browser, however it only allows you to add audiobooks to your personal collection, listen to excerpts and manage your account. To listen to audiobooks in full, you need to use the mobile app.
How to register for Storytel
Now that you know what it is Storytel, what are the prices of the service and the devices compatible with the latter, you can take action and create your account: the operation is very simple and takes a few minutes of time, moreover it can be implemented both from PC and from smartphones and tablets .
If you prefer to act as a computer, connect to the official Storytel website and click on the button Try free for 14 days which is located in the center. On the page that opens, fill out the form that is proposed to you with email address e Password you want to use to access the service. Then put the check mark next to the item I accept the Registration Conditions & Privacy Policy, choose whether to receive promotional communications by placing the check mark next to the appropriate option (otherwise leave it unchecked) and press the button Continue to confirm the creation of your account. If you want to do this first, you can also register through your account Facebook, by pressing the appropriate button located at the bottom.
On the next screen, provide your details paper (I remind you that no charges will be made before the expiry of the free trial of 14 days, whose renewal can be deactivated at any time), put the check mark next to the item I accept the Unlimited Additional Terms and click on the button for Activate subscription to confirm.
If you prefer to act as a smartphone or tablet, install the Storytel application for Android (also devices with HUAWEI AppGallery) or iOS / iPadOS as you find explained in the next chapter of this guide, start it, press on the voice to create an account and select yours nation and languages where you want to hear / read Storytel content.
At this point, select the option Log in from the application menu, choose the item for create an account and type email address e Password to be used for the account in the appropriate text fields. If you prefer, alternatively you can also press the button related to Facebook (o all’account Apple, if you use iPhone / iPad) and authenticate with your existing account.
Accept, then the user agreement, presses the button for start your free trial, enter your billing information (you will not be charged before the end of the initial trial) and press the button Take me to the titles!, to display the Storytel app home screen.
Remember to validate your account by clicking on the appropriate link you receive via e-mail.
How to use Storytel
Once your account is created, you are ready to enjoy Storytel audiobooks on your smartphone or tablet. So let's see how to download the official app of the service and how to make the most of it.
Download the application
The first step you need to take (if you haven't already) is to download the Storytel app on your smartphone or tablet.
If you have a terminal Android, then open the Play Store o HUAWEI AppGallery by tapping on the relative icon located on the home screen or in the drawer (i.e. the screen with the list of all the apps installed on the device) and search Storytel in the search field located at the top of the screen. When the search is complete, select the icon Storytel, pigia sul pulsating Install and wait for the automatic download and installation of the application. It will only take a few seconds.
If you use a iPhone or iPadinstead, open theApp Store (the blue icon with the stylized letter “A” on the home screen), select the card Search from the menu at the bottom right and search Storytel in the search field. When the search is done, tap on the application icon, then on the button Ottieni / Installa and confirm the app download via Face ID, touch ID or entering the password dell'ID Apple.
When the download is complete, regardless of the operating system you use on your device, start the Storytel application, press the button Log In and log in with your account data (the one you created following the instructions in the previous chapter of this tutorial).
Listen and download audiobooks
Listening to audiobooks on Storytel is really simple: you just have to find the title of your interest, add it to your personal library and start listening to it. To proceed, go to the Storytel home screen (the one named recommended) and browse the various sections available, such as Titles of the moment with the most interesting works of the moment, Storytel exclusives with the titles available exclusively on the platform or Più popolari with the works most listened to by users.
To view all the works contained in a certain section, tap on the arrow -> placed next to the title of the same. If, on the other hand, you prefer to browse the audiobooks available on Storytel based on their category (for example, Classics, Economy & Business o biography), tap the ☰ button located at the top left and select the item Search from the menu that appears (or from the menu below, if you use iOS). From the page that opens, in addition to browsing the category of the contents in the catalog, you can also access the rankings, exclusive series and podcasts and others popular content by Storytel.
Once you have identified the title of your interest, select it and, if you want, listen to a preview by pressing the button ▶ ︎ Preview. Then, if you like it, add it to your library by tapping the button with the heart and start playback by tapping the button Listen.
The operation of the player is so intuitive that there would be no need to illustrate it in detail. Anyway, at the top are the icons to set a sleep timer automatic for the reproduction of the audiobook (the crescent); add a bookmark customized (taking into account the fact that the app automatically keeps the playback point, and then resumes it where it was left off); adjust the playback speed (from 0.75 × to 2.0x) and perform the download for free audiobook to listen to it offline.
Then there is the button ... which allows you to access the menu to show the details of the book, save it in offline mode, subscribe to the series (if the book is part of a series), give away an audiobook to a friend or share the link to the work. At the bottom, finally, there are the multimedia controls to pause or resume playback and go back and forth.
Once saved in your profile, books marked as favorites become accessible in the section library Storytel (always present in the menu that appears by pressing the ☰ button located at the top left or in the menu at the bottom). From the Library you can then download, share, gift, delete from downloads or completely delete from the list, by pressing the button (...) placed in front of their titles and then choosing one of the available options in the menu that opens.
Books downloaded locally are marked with a green background. To see them all, go to the menu My Profile> Offline Downloaded Titles: you will find the list of all the audiobooks available offline and the space they occupy on the memory of your device at the bottom of the page. By pressing the button Erase everything, you can delete them all in one go
As mentioned above, you can also browse the audiobooks on Storytel and add them to your computer library. To do this, connect to the official website of the service, log in to your account (if necessary) and use the menus recommended, Categories o Search at the top to access the available audiobooks.
Once you have identified a work of interest to you, select it and, on the page that opens, click on the ▶ ︎ button to listen to an extract, or on the button Save to add it to your personal library. Easier than that?
Kids Mode
The Storytel app also includes the Kids Mode, a feature that only shows content suitable for children up to 12 years of age and allows you to share your account with that of a child, with the possibility of listening to audiobooks from two devices at the same time: this means that the child can use yours account in Kids Mode on a device, while you can continue listening to your favorite audiobooks or podcasts in “normal” mode from your smartphone or tablet, all with a single account.
To activate Storytel Kids Mode, go to the menu My Profile of the app and move to ON the relative levetta all'opzione Kids Mode. The first time you activate Kids Mode, you will be asked to create a PIN code (to be entered twice consecutively) to make sure your child navigates only in the “Kids” category and in Kids Mode. With Kids Mode, your child will have access to a personal library and will receive listening or reading recommendations based on what they have previously listened to or read.
In case of second thoughts, you can deactivate the Kids Mode by going to the menu My Profile Storytel app and moving to OFF the lever located in correspondence with the option Kids Mode. You will then have to confirm by typing the PIN you set the first time you activated the function.
Change the app settings
If you want to change some settings of the Storytel app, such as the appearance of alerts when you try to download an audiobook under the data network or the display of certain items in the service catalog, press the ☰ button located at the top left and select the voice My Account from the menu that appears on the side (or from the menu at the bottom, if you use iOS).
Then go up App settings and modify the parameters you prefer. For example, moving up ON or on OFF the relative levetta all'opzione Always ask me before downloading a book using phone data you can activate or deactivate the warnings related to the download of books under 3G / 4G / 5G network, while using the levers placed under the item Predefined filters you can choose whether to view or not audiobooks, eBook, titles in English e titles in in your languagen in the service catalog.
In the profile menu there is also the possibility to set a reading objective in terms of titles to read in a time frame decided by the user: by doing so, while reading in the app, Storytel will automatically update your progress towards the goals you have set up.
Manage the account
If you want to change some settings related to your account, such as the password to access it or your personal information (name, surname and username), you must go to Account settings present on your page Profile.
If you want turn off Storytel automatic renewal and avoid the charge after the free trial of the service (or, after being a subscriber, you want to avoid extending your subscription), for example, just press the button Manage subscription and then proceed to the Storytel website. Alternatively, if you have a iPhone or iPad and you subscribed to Storytel using theApp Store, you will need to select the relevant subscription Storytel e cancel pressing the appropriate button.
To proceed from a PC, on the other hand, connected to the Storytel site from a computer, log in to your account (if necessary) and first click on the item My pages (top right) and then onto that Account Present on the menu if you press.
On the page that is shown to you, click on the item Manage, then on the button for cancel your subscription o change subscription plan, then following the instructions on the screen. You may be asked why you are "leaving" the service.
If you cancel, you will be able to continue using Storytel until the end of the current subscription period (e.g. until the end of the initial 14-day trial).
From the account settings screen you can also change the account password, in case the current one does not satisfy you.
